Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has introduced a unified data layer designed to streamline AI integration across enterprise environments. This new data infrastructure, coupled with an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA, promises to improve AI workflows by providing easy access, intelligence, and controlled governance for multi-cloud and multi-vendor data environments via HPE GreenLake cloud services.

This unified data layer integrates both structured and unstructured data, enhancing the speed of the AI data lifecycle. By combining HPE’s high-performance data fabric and advanced enterprise storage systems, it supports seamless AI model development and enhances data readiness for AI applications when paired with NVIDIA’s AI Data Platform.

Fidelma Russo, EVP and CTO of Hybrid Cloud at HPE, emphasized, “To succeed in the agentic AI era, data management needs to evolve. Our new unified data layer and intelligent storage solutions enable businesses to run AI at scale wherever their data is stored.”

As AI systems become more widespread, the volume of data generated from edge to cloud is expected to increase significantly. However, current fragmented data environments hinder AI’s potential to drive valuable insights. The collaboration between HPE and NVIDIA aims to simplify this process, accelerating the entire data pipeline through a unified data layer and NVIDIA’s AI Data Platform.

The NVIDIA AI Data Platform is designed to integrate advanced computing, networking, and AI software with enterprise storage, enabling organizations to efficiently process data for AI applications. HPE’s support for this platform includes HPE Alletra Storage, HPE GreenLake for File Storage, and HPE Private Cloud AI, which collectively accelerate AI workloads and support inference tasks, improving decision-making and operational efficiency.

Justin Boitano, Vice President of Enterprise Software at NVIDIA, added, “Our partnership with HPE is creating a foundation for AI agents to connect to business data, enhancing AI reasoning and driving actionable insights.”

HPE’s unified data layer is optimized for hybrid cloud environments, enabling seamless edge-to-cloud data flow. The integration of HPE Data Fabric Software with HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 and Apache Iceberg ensures that enterprises can consistently deliver high-quality, AI-ready data for applications. This solution facilitates the intelligent ingestion of both structured and unstructured data, streamlining AI model development and accelerating insights.

The latest updates to HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 include advanced features like automated metadata tagging, allowing organizations to enrich their object data as it’s stored, preparing it for use in AI applications. This integration supports faster data access by enabling remote direct memory access (RDMA) transfers, which are crucial for optimizing GPU performance in AI-driven workloads.

HPE is enhancing its storage capabilities with HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000, which now includes unified file access and ransomware protection. This expanded functionality simplifies data management and improves the flexibility of storage environments, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

Key updates to the system include the introduction of unified storage for both block and file data. This innovation represents the industry’s first disaggregated, scale-out storage solution that combines block and file storage on a single operating system. By reducing complexity, this solution enhances operational efficiency and streamlines management for businesses handling diverse data types.

In addition, new software-defined storage capabilities integrated with Microsoft Azure and AIOps have been introduced. These advancements provide AI-driven management that supports automation in data management and provisioning, optimizing the efficiency of storage operations and reducing the manual effort involved in managing data across the enterprise.

Ransomware protection has also been significantly enhanced in this update. The system now includes integrated detection and recovery features, ensuring comprehensive protection for data stored across both storage arrays and applications. This added layer of security helps safeguard against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, providing peace of mind for organizations relying on their data.

In terms of availability, the HPE Data Fabric and HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 are set to launch in Summer 2025. Updates to the existing B10000 and X10000 models will be available for order starting in May 2025, providing customers with access to the latest advancements and ensuring they stay ahead with cutting-edge storage solutions.
