HORIBA Launches Hydrogen Engine Test Facility in Pune

HORIBA India, a subsidiary of Kyoto-based HORIBA Ltd., has unveiled its first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) test bed facility at the HORIBA India Technical Center in Chakan, Pune. This Rs. 28-30 crore investment will enable testing of hydrogen-fueled engines, promoting advancements in energy-efficient and sustainable automotive solutions.

The facility features an Experience Zone showcasing cutting-edge technologies, including the Hydrogen Gas Analyzer (HyEVO), Hydrogen Fuel Flow Meter (HyFQ-2000 Series), and Laser Spectroscopic Motor Exhaust Gas Analyzer (MEXA-ONE-XL-NX), with live product demonstrations. HORIBA India’s 10,000-square-meter Technical Center, established in 2016 with over Rs. 100 crore investment, is certified to global standards and plays a pivotal role in emission testing, EV systems, and environmental monitoring.

Capable of testing engines up to 380 kW, the center supports India’s commercial vehicle market and aligns with green mobility initiatives. The inauguration, attended by Dr George Gillespie and Dr Rajeev Gautam of HORIBA, highlighted hydrogen’s role in achieving India’s net-zero goals by 2070. Globally, it leads emission measurement systems with an 80% market share, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future.
