Honda Motor plans to establish 500 battery-swapping stations across Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai by March 2026, as part of its strategy to support the electric two-wheeler market through its subsidiary, Honda Power Pack Energy India Pvt Ltd (HEID). The new service, Honda e:Swap, will begin in Bengaluru in February 2025, followed by Delhi and Mumbai in April 2025.
HEID aims to expand its battery swapping network, ensure reliable services with an integrated system for monitoring each battery and exchange, and provide superior customer support. “We are focused on expanding our swap network, offering seamless services, and enhancing the user experience,” said Takuya Taniguchi, President and CMD of HEID.
Honda recently launched two electric scooters—Activa E, which features swappable batteries, and the QC1 with a fixed battery. The company targets a 50% share of India’s electric two-wheeler market within a year. Battery swapping is expected to lower the upfront cost of the Activa E, as HEID will own the batteries, and it aims to reduce range anxiety for users.
In the initial phase, Honda will roll out Activa E in the three metro cities, with users able to register for membership and access HEID’s battery swap stations via a mobile app. HEID plans to install 250 swap stations in Bangalore, 150 in Delhi, and 100 in Mumbai by 2026.
