Honda announced on Wednesday a new partnership with IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay to advance research in AI technologies for driver assistance and automated driving. The collaboration aims to enhance Honda’s Cooperative Intelligence (CI) system, which facilitates interaction between humans and machines.

The agreement involves Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) signing a joint research contract with the two IITs. This partnership seeks to push the boundaries of CI technology, focusing on reducing traffic collisions and developing automated driving solutions.

Key research areas include environmental recognition and fostering cooperative behavior between vehicles and their surroundings. The research will leverage cutting-edge AI technologies and involve Honda associates and IIT professors working closely with IIT students on practical applications and technology development.

The initiative will also include field testing of these technologies in the suburbs of Delhi and Mumbai, where the complex traffic conditions present unique challenges for AI systems. This real-world testing aims to refine CI technologies and adapt them for various global markets.

It has been actively recruiting IIT graduates since 2019, with many now contributing to mobility intelligence and CI development. The new partnership reflects it’s commitment to leveraging academic and industry insights to drive innovation in automotive technology.

The company is a leading automobile manufacturer in India, known for its premium range of cars. A subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Japan), the company operates with a focus on innovation, safety, and sustainability. It has a significant manufacturing presence in the country with its production plants in Greater Noida and Tapukara, Rajasthan, which are equipped with advanced technology for producing both domestic and export models.

Honda Cars India offers a diverse portfolio, including popular models like the Honda City, Amaze, and WR-V, catering to various segments of the Indian market. The company is also working towards expanding its electric vehicle lineup in India, aligning with the global shift towards greener transportation solutions.
