Honda has made history as the first automotive company to earn the prestigious 3-star rating in the FIA Road Safety Index. This recognition is part of the FIA’s initiative to help businesses assess their road safety impact. The 3-star achievement was announced on February 17 during the “Challenge 2030: Achieving the Global Road Safety Goals” event, held alongside the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, Morocco, from February 18 to 20, 2025.
The FIA Road Safety Index is a new tool designed to help organizations measure the effectiveness of their road safety efforts and contribute to safer, more sustainable road traffic. The index evaluates companies based on various factors, including road safety goals, commitment, and the rate of traffic fatalities and injuries across their operations.
Honda received the highest rating of 3 stars for both the “supply chain” and “product/service” categories. This achievement marks Honda as the first automaker to complete audits for both categories and secure top scores in each.
Honda’s dedication to road safety is evident in its global safety slogan, “Safety for Everyone,” and its ambitious goal to reduce traffic fatalities involving Honda vehicles by 50% by 2030, aiming for zero fatalities by 2050. The company’s comprehensive approach to safety, which includes both hardware and software initiatives, was highly recognized in the FIA Road Safety Index.
The FIA’s Secretary General for Automobile Mobility, Willem Groenewald, commended Honda’s commitment to improving road safety, noting that Honda’s efforts reflect a culture of continuous enhancement.
Honda’s General Manager of Safety Planning Division, Hideaki Takaishi, expressed pride in the company’s recognition, emphasizing Honda’s longstanding commitment to both product safety and promoting safe driving practices. He hopes that the widespread adoption of such safety initiatives across industries will contribute to reducing traffic accidents worldwide. Through its ongoing safety initiatives, Honda aims to continue advancing road safety while supporting a more sustainable and enjoyable mobility future.
