Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is gearing up to boost its production capacity to 7 million units annually by 2027, strengthening India’s role as a key hub in Honda’s global two-wheeler strategy. This increase in output will be supported by a new post-assembly line at its Bidadi plant in Karnataka, marking a significant milestone as the company celebrates 25 years of operations in the country.

Currently operating four manufacturing plants in Manesar, Tapukara, Narsapura, and Bidadi, HMSI continues to focus on expanding its capacity, localising production, and developing future-ready platforms to meet growing domestic demand and enhance its export potential. “Honda two-wheelers are not just made in India — they are made with the Indian mind,” stated Tsutsumu Otani, President, CEO, and Managing Director of HMSI. “Every feature and design choice reflects our deep understanding of Indian roads, riders, and aspirations.”

India is already one of Honda’s largest and most strategic markets, and HMSI’s expanding operations reinforce the company’s long-term commitment to the region. The company has developed an extensive retail network in India, comprising over 6,000 Red Wing outlets and more than 150 premium Big Wing showrooms, catering to both mass-market and niche customer segments.

As part of its new strategic vision, Generation Honda: Towards Golden Dominance, the company has unveiled two new internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles tailored to meet the growing demand in the 100–125cc segment. The first is a 100cc commuter bike, purpose-built for the entry-level market. This model emphasizes core values such as reliability, practicality, and affordability, making it an ideal choice for first-time buyers and cost-conscious daily commuters.

The second offering is a 125cc premium commuter aimed at tech-savvy urban youth. With a bold, sporty design and modern features, this motorcycle caters to aspirational riders seeking both style and performance. It incorporates advanced technology and enhanced connectivity to meet the expectations of a digitally connected generation, positioning it as a compelling choice in the competitive urban commuter segment.

These models are aimed at strengthening Honda’s foothold in the highly competitive 100–125 cc segment, where it already leads the automatic scooter market with the iconic Activa. HMSI’s diversified product strategy ensures it continues to cater to both value-focused customers and those seeking more premium offerings.

Looking to the future, HMSI reaffirmed its commitment to electric mobility, announcing that it plans to introduce electric two-wheelers at the “right time, with the right product, and according to market readiness.” While specific timelines were not disclosed, the phased approach is expected to begin with urban-focused EVs and expand as infrastructure and ecosystem development progress.

Aligned with Honda’s global targets, HMSI is also working toward achieving zero traffic fatalities involving Honda vehicles and carbon neutrality across all operations and products by 2050. The company continues to invest in road safety education, sustainable manufacturing practices, and community engagement programs in India, ensuring it plays a key role in advancing the nation’s green mobility goals.

As HMSI celebrates its 25th anniversary in India, its strategic focus on expanding production, building mass-market leadership, creating a premium brand, and integrating EV solutions sets the stage for future growth. With a target of producing 7 million units annually and a strong dual-pronged product strategy, the company is poised to challenge Hero MotoCorp for leadership in India’s competitive two-wheeler market.
