HMS Networks has released a new version of its Ixxat SafeT100 module, expanding its functional safety capabilities to include Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE). The module enables device manufacturers and machine builders to easily and quickly add functional safety capabilities to their equipment up to SIL 3 and PLe Cat.4.

HMS Networks has announced the release of a new version of their Ixxat SafeT100 module, which now supports Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) in addition to its previous compatibility with PROFIsafe and CIP Safety. The module is a comprehensive safety solution that allows device manufacturers and machine builders to implement configurable, safe inputs and outputs in applications up to SIL 3 and PLe Cat.4.

The Ixxat SafeT100 module is designed to work seamlessly with Anybus CompactCom. This handles standard non-safe communication with the EtherCAT network. The SafeT100 handles safe communication via FSoE, which is becoming increasingly popular in industrial automation applications. SafeT100’s full safe protocol implementation allows for easy functional safety integration, saving development time, cost, and risk. Device manufacturers and machine builders benefit greatly.

TÜV Rheinland has pre-certified the module, and ETG 5100 V1.2.0 standard is conformed by it. This confirmation was given by the ETG test lab. Ixxat SafeT100’s compatibility with Anybus CompactCom allows for safe and non-safe functions on a single communication interface. Moreover, this simplifies configuration and project planning of industrial automation systems.

The Ixxat SafeT100 features three two-channel inputs that can detect external wiring errors and one two-channel output, all operating with 24 V signals. Moreover, the Anybus CompactCom module provides all necessary service and process data interfaces for FSoE in the EtherCAT layer. These include control of the network, status LED, and transmission of safe configuration data. The Anybus CompactCom module and the Ixxat SafeT100/FSoE interface have galvanic isolation as an added safety feature. The module also has integrated temperature monitoring, channel-granular error signaling, and error handling. If any error occurs, the module shuts down to a safe state.

Device manufacturers and machine builders implement the Ixxat SafeT100 module themselves, aided by comprehensive implementation guidelines and user documentation. However, HMS Networks also supports customers with implementation services, as well as porting and certification services. For specific requirements regarding form factor, plugs or number of I/Os, HMS can develop customer-specific versions of the Ixxat SafeT100.

HMS provides pre-certified TÜV protocol stacks for Functional Safety over EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and Sercos. SafeT100 integration may not always be feasible. Furthermore, with these options, customers can support FSoE, PROFIsafe, and CIP Safety protocols with one hardware design, increasing scalability and efficiency.
