Hindustan Zinc Limited (NSE: HINDZINC), India’s largest and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer, has supplied high-quality zinc for the galvanization of India’s largest transmission steel pole structure. This 400 kV dual pole structure, standing approximately 57 meters tall and weighing over 200 metric tons, was galvanized using a blend of Hindustan Zinc’s low-dross jumbo special high-grade zinc and special high-grade (SHG) zinc ingots.

The advanced galvanization process protects the structure from corrosion, forming a durable barrier against environmental factors such as air, water, heat, and pollution. The dual pole design, created by Skipper Limited as part of the 400 kV Quad Moose DC Transmission Lines Project for the Pinnapuram Integrated Renewable Energy with Storage Project in Andhra Pradesh, offers an optimized solution compared to traditional lattice towers, making it suitable for urban areas with limited space.

The structure underwent galvanization at Skipper Limited’s extensive facility in West Bengal. Zinc’s protective coating is essential, especially for coastal areas like Andhra Pradesh, which are prone to higher corrosion rates due to humidity and salt.

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited, emphasized the company’s dedication to customer satisfaction and innovation in infrastructure projects. He highlighted the role of zinc in enhancing the longevity and durability of critical infrastructure, reflecting Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to supporting India’s infrastructure development.

Sajan Kumar Bansal, Managing Director of Skipper Limited, praised the collaboration with Hindustan Zinc, noting that it represents a significant milestone in India’s power infrastructure. The partnership underscores the importance of high-quality materials in ensuring structural integrity and long-term durability.

Hindustan Zinc is a leading global provider of zinc products, serving over 40 countries and focusing on innovation and environmental sustainability. The company recently introduced EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon ‘green’ zinc, produced with renewable energy and a significantly reduced carbon footprint. Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to decarbonization and sustainable practices continues to advance its role in the global energy transition.
