Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated producer of zinc, has been recognized for its sustained contributions to school education in Rajasthan with six awards at the 29th edition of the Bhamashah Awards. These awards, presented by the Government of Rajasthan, acknowledge individuals and organizations that have made significant advancements in the field of education.

The company’s Rampura Agucha Mine, Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter, Zawar Mines, Rajpura Dariba Complex, and Zinc Smelter Debari were honored under the Shiksha Vibhushan category, while the Kayad Lead Zinc Mine received recognition under the Shiksha Bhushan category. These accolades commend Hindustan Zinc’s efforts in enhancing both educational infrastructure and academic outcomes across the state.

The ceremony was attended by senior state leaders, including Hon’ble Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bhairwa, Education Minister Madan Dilawar, and Principal Secretary of Education Krishna Kunal, along with other dignitaries and members of the Hindustan Zinc leadership team.

Over the past eight years, Hindustan Zinc has allocated over ₹430 crore towards education-led social development projects across Rajasthan. This includes ₹80 crore invested in upgrading facilities such as classrooms, toilets, drinking water access, sports areas, and electrical infrastructure. A further ₹350 crore has been directed toward flagship educational programs designed to improve learning and expand access.

Hindustan Zinc has implemented a wide range of educational initiatives designed to uplift rural and underserved communities across Rajasthan. Among these are Nand Ghar, which transforms traditional Anganwadi centers into modern early learning spaces; Shiksha Sambal, a program that offers remedial academic support in government schools; and Khushi, which prioritizes the health and nutritional well-being of students to improve learning outcomes. These efforts form a comprehensive foundation for addressing both the physical and intellectual needs of schoolchildren.

The company’s inclusive approach is further reflected in Jeevan Tarang, which provides specialized education solutions for children with disabilities, promoting equitable learning opportunities. Unchi Udaan aims to bridge the gender gap in science and technology by offering advanced STEM education and mentorship to girls. Additionally, Hindustan Zinc supports higher education for young women in rural areas, helping them access college and vocational training, and empowering them to pursue meaningful careers.

“At Hindustan Zinc, we believe that education is key to building resilient, self-reliant communities,” said Arun Misra, CEO & Whole-Time Director. “The recognition we continue to receive through awards like Bhamashah is a reflection of the trust and collaboration we’ve built with local schools, educators, and families. Our long-term commitment is to create sustainable impact through thoughtful, targeted interventions.”

Reaching over two lakh students annually, Hindustan Zinc’s programs have delivered measurable results in tribal and remote regions. Rajasthan’s Class 10 pass rate has surged from 47% in 2007 to over 93% in 2025, with girls consistently outperforming boys. Dropout rates have seen notable declines in areas where the company operates, and female literacy has risen from 57.6% in 2017 to 65.8%. To reinforce and expand this impact, Hindustan Zinc has signed an MoU with the Rajasthan Department of Education, committing ₹36 crore over the next five years to further strengthen the state’s education infrastructure and outreach.

Beyond education, Hindustan Zinc plays a vital role in rural development by promoting sustainable livelihoods, women’s empowerment, improved healthcare, water management, and sanitation. These efforts have positively impacted more than 2.3 million people across over 2,300 villages in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

Hindustan Zinc Limited, a subsidiary of Vedanta Group, is the largest producer of zinc in the world and among the top five global silver producers. With a market share of approximately 77% in India’s primary zinc sector, the company exports to more than 40 countries.

Recognized for its leadership in sustainability, Hindustan Zinc has been ranked the most sustainable metal and mining company worldwide for two consecutive years by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (2024). The company is also behind EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon zinc brand, with emissions 75% below the global average.
