Hindustan Zinc Achieves Record-High Refined Metal Production in FY25

Metal Production

Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has reported historic production figures for the year ending March 31, 2025. The company achieved record-high levels of both mined metal production at 1,095 kilotonnes (KT) and refined metal production at 1,052 KT. These results underscore Hindustan Zinc’s continued market dominance, with the company holding the highest market capitalization among global zinc producers.

Hindustan Zinc has posted impressive results for FY25, setting several records in its production across key areas. The company achieved a record high in mined metal production, reaching 1,095 kilotonnes (KT), driven by improved metal grades and better recovery rates from its mills. This significant increase in mined metal production further demonstrates the company’s operational efficiencies and commitment to enhancing its mining processes.

In addition to the record mined metal production, Hindustan Zinc also achieved peak refined metal output for the year, with a total of 1,052 KT produced. This was made possible by enhanced plant availability and improved operational parameters. Notably, refined zinc production reached 827 KT, reflecting a modest 1% growth compared to the previous year, while lead production saw a stronger 4% increase, totaling 225 KT. These results underscore Hindustan Zinc’s ability to scale up its production and maintain operational excellence.

Another noteworthy achievement was the performance of Hindustan Zinc Alloys Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company. In FY25, it produced 10 KT of zinc alloys, contributing significantly to Hindustan Zinc’s Value-Added Product (VAP) segment. This expansion highlights the company’s efforts to diversify its product offerings and strengthen its market presence in India’s alloy segment.

Hindustan Zinc also reported its silver production for FY25, reaching 687 metric tonnes of saleable silver. However, this was an 8% decline compared to the previous year, primarily due to changes in mining sequences and a reduction in silver content from the SK mine. Despite the drop, the company remains a major player in silver production, holding a strong position within the industry.

In the fourth quarter of FY25 (4QFY25), Hindustan Zinc achieved its highest-ever quarterly mined metal production, with 310 KT produced. This marked a 17% increase from the previous quarter, driven by higher mined metal grades and increased production at key sites such as the Agucha and Zawar mines. This record quarterly production demonstrates the company’s ability to optimize its mining operations and adapt to changing conditions.

The company also saw a significant boost in its refined metal output for the quarter, reaching 270 KT, which was a 4% increase from the prior quarter. Refined zinc production rose by 5% to 214 KT, while lead production saw a 2% increase, reaching 56 KT. Moreover, silver production in the fourth quarter increased by 10%, totaling 177 metric tonnes, due to higher lead production and stronger Work In Progress (WIP) liquidation. Additionally, Hindustan Zinc’s wind power generation reached 63 MUs, a 33% increase from the previous quarter, benefiting from favorable wind conditions, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.

Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company, is the global leader in zinc production and the third-largest silver producer.
