Hind Rectifiers Limited (HIRECT), a leading name in power semiconductors, electronic systems, and railway traction equipment, has officially commenced commercial production of specialized copper conductors at its Sinnar facility. This marks the successful completion of the company’s major backward integration initiative, aimed at enhancing supply chain control and operational efficiency.

The new production line focuses on the in-house manufacturing of Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC), Enamelled Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (EPICC), and Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (PICC) — key components in traction transformer manufacturing. The project represents a capital investment of approximately ₹56 crore, financed through a combination of term loans and internal accruals. This expansion will reduce reliance on external suppliers, minimize raw material shortages, and ensure timely transformer deliveries to customers, particularly the Indian Railways. It is also expected to lower production costs and strengthen profit margins, enhancing the company’s overall competitiveness.

Suramya Nevatia, Chairman & Managing Director of Hind Rectifiers Limited, stated “The start of copper conductor manufacturing marks a strategic leap for Hirect. These conductors are in high demand, both domestically and internationally, and this initiative positions us to cater not only to our internal transformer needs but also to the wider transformer industry. This development will drive revenue growth, improve margins, and deliver long-term value to our customers and shareholders.”

Founded in 1958 in collaboration with Westinghouse Brake & Signal, UK, Hind Rectifiers Limited (HIRECT) has grown into a prominent Indian engineering and manufacturing enterprise with a legacy of over six decades. The company operates with a skilled workforce of around 950 employees across two production facilities located in Nashik and Bhandup, Maharashtra, and maintains offices in India, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates.

Hirect designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of products including traction propulsion systems, power converters, transformers, rectifiers, traction motors, HVAC systems, and control electronics. Its solutions cater to multiple sectors such as railways, defence, power, hydrogen, steel, cement, chemical, and paper industries.
