Himadri Speciality Chemical, a leading player in the speciality chemicals sector, is set to commission its new ₹1,130-crore plant in Odisha in the latter half of FY27. Alongside this, the company is also planning to establish two more greenfield facilities to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP). LFP is a crucial component for lithium-ion batteries, widely used in electric vehicles (EVs).

“The construction of our greenfield plant in Odisha for producing lithium iron phosphate will start in January next year. We aim to have the plant operational by the second half of FY27, with a total capital investment of ₹1,130 crore,” stated Anurag Choudhary, Chairman and CEO of Himadri Speciality Chemical, in an interview with Businessline.

The Odisha plant will initially have an annual production capacity of around 40,000 tonnes. This expansion is expected to strengthen the company’s position in the rapidly growing EV and energy storage markets. “We are also planning to set up two additional plants for LFP production,” Choudhary added.

Focus on Lithium-Ion Batteries

In lithium-ion batteries, the cathode is a critical component influencing the battery’s performance, and LFP is a preferred material for this purpose. The Kolkata-based company had previously announced in December of the previous year its plans to invest approximately ₹4,800 crore over the next five to six years to produce around 2 lakh tonnes of LFP. This move is part of Himadri Speciality Chemical’s broader strategy to diversify its product portfolio and focus on advanced materials for long-term business growth.

Himadri Speciality Chemical is a prominent player in the speciality chemical industry, known for its extensive portfolio that includes advanced carbon materials, anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, and performance chemicals.

With a focus on innovation and sustainability, the company is actively expanding into the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage sectors. It has announced significant investments in producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP), a key component in Li-ion batteries. By commissioning new plants, including a ₹1,130-crore facility in Odisha slated for FY27, Himadri is positioning itself as a crucial supplier in the rapidly growing EV market, while also diversifying its offerings for sustained future growth.
