The netFIELD app functions as a Modbus-to-MQTT converter, supporting both Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP protocols. Packaged as a software container, it translates Modbus communications into MQTT messages, easing the connection between Modbus devices and MQTT-enabled applications.
Because it is platform-independent, the app can be installed on devices such as edge gateways to facilitate data exchange between Modbus RTU or TCP servers and user applications over an MQTT message bus. Users can easily upload JSON-formatted Modbus device description files through the app’s interface. These files specify the device parameters, including register and coil settings, which are used to configure data reading and writing transactions.
This solution is well-suited for modernizing Modbus systems with IIoT capabilities and smart services. By capturing field and control data from Modbus devices, it allows real-time monitoring of physical processes. This can improve reaction times for predictive maintenance and boost overall system efficiency through timely data-driven decisions.
