High security provided by the latest Shark tap

Dormer Pramet has an extended Shark Line tap range, which has been increased by High Strength steels and Titanium alloys. These taps are in spiral point (E334) and spiral flute (E335) geometries for through and blind hole threading, respectively. They have high performance and process security in hardened and tempered materials with hardness lesser than 45 HRC. They can be identified by the black ring on their shank. Their robust geometry enhances considerably cutting-edge strength and endorses problem-free, high-quality thread production.

Moreover, both these taps have a TIAIN-top coating and a unique powder metallurgy tool material is used to manufacture them for better performance, longer tool life, and toughness at increased temperatures.

Johan Bodin, Product Manager for threading at Dormer Pramet, commented that this ranges provides customers an opportunity to machine high strength, high value workpiece materials with a high degree of reliability. During threading of a costly part in the final stage of a complicated machining process, a tool can break or the resulting thread can go out of tolerance. The Black Shark taps ensure that this does not take place. These two taps reinforce the Shark Line’s position as one of the leading assortments of HSS performance taps in the world.

The E334 spiral point tap offers through-hole threading up to 2.5xD. It has a low rake angle for excellent edge strength and chip control. It has a balanced higher relief on the chamfer and lower relief on the guidance threads, due to which it can support blind hole threading up to 1.5xD.

Each of these taps have a color ring that indicates easy tool selection and material suitability. The various material types are white for cast iron, green for Aluminum, blue for Stainless Steel, yellow for Structural Carbon and Low Alloy Steels, and red for alloy steels.
