Steel pipes maker Hi-Tech Pipes announced plans to have 13.5 MW of solar power capacity for its own use by December 2024. Currently, the company has 8.5 MW of installed solar power and is adding another 5 MW in phases. The financial details were not disclosed, but industry estimates suggest that 1 MW of solar power costs around Rs 5-7 crore, including land.
With these additions, Hi-Tech Pipes expects to source about 30% of its power from renewable energy. The company has also signed an agreement with a major renewable energy supplier to generate and use green hydrogen. This supplier will provide its expertise in engineering and research for the project.
Hi-Tech Pipes operates six manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, with a total capacity of 750,000 metric tonnes per year. Besides steel pipes, it produces hollow sections, tubes, cold rolled coils, road crash barriers, solar mounting structures, and other galvanized products.
