Hero MotoCorp, in collaboration with its US-based partner Zero Motorcycles, is in the final stages of developing a mid-sized performance electric motorcycle, according to CEO Niranjan Gupta. Zero Motorcycles, based in California, specializes in electric motorcycles and powertrains. Hero MotoCorp had earlier approved an equity investment of up to $60 million in Zero Motorcycles in September 2022, cementing their partnership for premium electric bike development.
Speaking during an analyst call, Gupta confirmed that the mid-sized electric bike is progressing well and is positioned in the performance segment. While the company has not disclosed a launch timeline, Gupta hinted that the unveiling is not far off.
Hero MotoCorp is also expanding its electric scooter lineup across multiple price points this year. The current VIDA electric scooter range, priced between ₹1-1.5 lakh (including subsidies), is available in over 230 cities with 400+ sales touchpoints. Gupta stated that the company expects its EV products to comply with the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme by FY26.
On the overall business outlook, Gupta expressed optimism about the economy and auto sector, highlighting strong festive sales momentum. Regarding international markets, Hero MotoCorp is witnessing positive trends in countries like Colombia and Mexico, with Colombia achieving cash and EBITDA positivity for the first time. Gupta added that while regions like Bangladesh, Turkey, and Nigeria need to improve performance, the company’s focused approach on top markets and selective expansion is yielding results.
