Henkel India, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Navi Mumbai – The Joy of Giving, has launched Project HARMONY, an employee-focused CSR initiative aimed at protecting and restoring local ecosystems around its headquarters in Navi Mumbai. The project, which stands for “Henkel and Rotary for Mother Nature and You,” seeks to create lasting environmental impact by engaging volunteers in sustainability activities.
The first event under Project HARMONY was a panel discussion on Mangroves and Marine Biodiversity Conservation, held on 25th July 2025 at Henkel’s Seawoods office. The discussion, held in honor of International Mangrove Conservation Day, brought together environmental experts to share their insights on the importance of mangroves and how they can be conserved.
The panel discussion featured a diverse group of experts who shared valuable insights on various aspects of biodiversity conservation. Stalin Dayanand, a well-known environmental conservationist, emphasized the ecological and community significance of mangrove ecosystems, highlighting their role in sustaining local biodiversity. Piyush Jha, a clean technology specialist, introduced cutting-edge solutions in wastewater processing, focusing on how these innovations can support marine sustainability. Meanwhile, Meenaz Kakalia offered a legal perspective, addressing the gaps in biodiversity protection laws, particularly in relation to the rights of marginalized communities living near vulnerable ecosystems.
In addition, Kedarnath Rao Ghorpade, former Chief Planner of MMRDA, shed light on the urban planning efforts in Navi Mumbai and how these initiatives are increasingly aligned with environmental goals. The discussion provided a well-rounded view of the challenges and opportunities in conserving coastal ecosystems, particularly mangroves, by integrating legal, technological, and urban planning perspectives.
The session was co-moderated by Bhagwan Kesbhat, founder of Waatavaran, and Dr Anjali Parasnis, Coordinator of the World Bank’s 2030 Water Resources Group, who provided a global perspective on regional conservation efforts. Project HARMONY is part of Henkel’s long-term commitment to sustainability and biodiversity. The initiative aims to create transformational impact by combining corporate responsibility, community engagement, and expert guidance.
S Sunil Kumar, Country President of Henkel India, said, “This partnership marks an important step in preserving the coastal ecosystems of Navi Mumbai. By combining innovation, community ownership, and expert insights, we aim to nurture these vital ecosystems for future generations.”
Rekha Sankhala, President of Rotary Club of Navi Mumbai Joy of Giving (RCNM), added, “When corporates and citizens collaborate, conservation becomes a shared success story. HARMONY is a perfect example of this united effort to make a meaningful difference.”
