HELION Hydrogen Power, a subsidiary of the Alstom Group, has signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with M REFORMER. This collaboration will see HELION, a leader in high-power fuel cells, demonstrate the compatibility of its systems with hydrogen produced from methanol. As part of the agreement, HELION will provide a 100kW fuel cell, which will be integrated with M REFORMER’s E-NOMAD system at M REFORMER’s industrial site in Molins de Rey, near Barcelona.
The integration of hydrogen fuel cells with methanol reformers marks a key milestone in advancing sustainable energy technologies. Methanol-hydrogen generators produce high-quality hydrogen, which is crucial for fuel cell operation.
By combining these two systems, the partnership aims to address the growing demand for increased on-site energy storage capacity, particularly using hydrogen vectors in liquid form. The partnership also underscores M REFORMER’s dedication to methanol reforming technology as a practical, viable solution for hydrogen storage and transportation.
Vincent Mahéo, President of HELION, commented, “This strategic partnership is a pivotal step in our product development, enabling the multi-vector functionality of our systems. By using green hydrogen derived from methanol, we’re tackling one of the key challenges in energy storage: optimizing usable energy for our clients. We are committed to advancing this technology by overcoming the current hydrogen storage limitations that impede its widespread adoption.”
Javier Torres, Managing Director of M REFORMER, added, “This collaboration with HELION is a valuable opportunity to showcase the compatibility of our E-NOMAD system with HELION’s technology. It highlights the potential of green molecules, especially methanol, as a key solution in the decarbonization of our society. We are thrilled to have the chance to demonstrate how our system works with HELION’s fuel cells, paving the way for future collaborations in stationary and mobile applications.”
