Häfele Strengthens ‘Make in India’ Commitment with New Local Production Facility in Maharashtra

manufacturing news

Häfele has commenced operations at its new local production setup in Maharashtra, marking an important step in the company’s localisation strategy in India. The initiative reinforces Häfele’s support for the Government of India’s “Make in India” programme while establishing a stronger manufacturing base for the company in one of its key growth markets.

The new production facility represents the beginning of Häfele’s phased manufacturing roadmap in the country. It is designed to support local value creation while building the foundation for scalable production capabilities in the years ahead.

Globally, Häfele operates an established manufacturing and supply chain network with production facilities across Europe. The Indian production initiative extends this network, allowing the company to strengthen its presence in South Asia while bringing manufacturing closer to an important customer market.

Production at the facility has started with the MatrixBox Premium+ drawer system, a solution developed for modern kitchen applications. The system offers smooth soft-close functionality, silent operation and the durability required for heavy daily usage. It is available in multiple premium finishes and can be customised with a variety of accessories to meet diverse design requirements.

The company plans to gradually expand the range of products manufactured at the site as part of its long-term localisation plans. The current setup allows Häfele to begin local manufacturing while work progresses on the development of a larger production hub in India that will support future expansion.

As part of strengthening its local manufacturing ecosystem, Häfele has also expanded its Service+Customised offering in the country. The company now produces customised aluminium-profile cabinet fronts at its dedicated facility in Mumbai.

These aluminium fronts are supplied pre-assembled and pre-drilled, ensuring precision, consistent quality and faster installation for kitchen, wardrobe and furniture applications. This capability enhances design flexibility while reducing lead times for channel partners.

Michael Distl, Chief Financial Officer, Häfele Group, said the move strengthens the company’s global manufacturing structure. He noted that investments in India help validate production processes, improve financial efficiency and maintain governance, quality and compliance standards aligned with Häfele’s global benchmarks.

Boris Katic, Chief Operating Officer, Häfele Group, emphasised that strong manufacturing capabilities depend on skilled people, reliable processes and stable supply chains. He added that expanding production in India supports the company’s strategy to decentralise global supply chains and develop regional production hubs capable of serving both domestic and international markets.

Frank Schloeder, Managing Director, Häfele South Asia, described the new production setup as a significant step in the company’s India strategy. He said the initiative will help develop local manufacturing expertise, create employment opportunities and enable the company to respond more quickly to the evolving needs of the Indian market.

By increasing local production, Häfele aims to reduce dependence on imports, strengthen supply-chain resilience and build a scalable manufacturing base that supports long-term growth in India and across South Asia. Established in 2003 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the global Häfele network, Häfele India has built a strong presence in the country’s interior solutions market.

The company is widely recognised for its expertise in architectural hardware, furniture fittings, and kitchen accessories, while also expanding into complementary categories such as home appliances, interior and furniture lighting, sanitary solutions, and surfaces. This diversified portfolio enables Häfele India to position itself as a comprehensive provider of interior solutions across India and South Asia.

The company maintains a robust nationwide presence through its network of offices and design showrooms located in major cities across the country. These showrooms serve as integrated experience centres, offering customers a single destination for home interior and improvement solutions. Visitors can access expert technical guidance, product demonstrations, and professional services such as customised kitchen and wardrobe design, delivered by trained specialists who help translate design ideas into practical solutions.
