GRSE wins contract to supply Advanced Dredger to Bangladesh

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has secured a significant contract worth $16.6 million with the Bangladesh Inland Waterways Transport Authority (BIWTA) to supply an advanced dredger. The agreement, which was signed in Dhaka, marks a notable achievement in GRSE’s efforts to enhance international cooperation and provide top-tier maritime solutions.

Under the terms of the contract, GRSE will deliver a state-of-the-art Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) featuring a hopper capacity of 1,000 cubic meters. This advanced dredger is expected to bolster Bangladesh’s capacity for maintaining navigable waterways, crucial for the country’s inland water transport and trade.

“This agreement marks another milestone in GRSE’s ongoing commitment to fostering international cooperation and delivering high-quality maritime solutions,” GRSE, a Government of India Undertaking under the Defence Ministry, said in a statement.

GRSE’s Managing Director, Commodore P R Hari, and BIWTA’s Chairman, Commodore Golam Sadeq, attended the contract signing ceremony. The event underscored the strengthening ties between India and Bangladesh in the maritime sector and showcased GRSE’s growing footprint in international markets.

“GRSE’s consistent success in international markets is a testament to its expertise and reliability in shipbuilding and related services. This contract highlights our capability to deliver complex maritime solutions that meet the specific needs of our international clients,” said Commodore Hari.

The Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger to be supplied under this contract is designed for efficient dredging operations, featuring advanced technology that ensures optimal performance in maintaining and improving navigable channels. This will significantly enhance the BIWTA’s ability to manage the extensive network of rivers and inland waterways in Bangladesh.

This contract with BIWTA is not just a commercial win for GRSE but also a strategic step in reinforcing India’s maritime diplomacy in the region. It highlights GRSE’s role as a key player in the international shipbuilding industry and its commitment to delivering cutting-edge maritime infrastructure solutions globally.

GRSE, with a long-standing legacy in shipbuilding, has built over 780 vessels for various purposes, including defense, shipping, and export.
