Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has finalized a contract with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG of Germany on March 24, 2025, for the construction of the 7th and 8th multi-purpose vessels (MPVs), each with a capacity of 7,500 DWT. The agreement was signed in Hamburg, Germany, and is part of an ‘Option Agreement’ for the procurement of four additional MPVs. The total order value for all eight vessels is estimated at approximately 108 million USD.
Each MPV will have a length of 120 meters, a width of 17 meters, and a maximum draft of 6.75 meters, with a cargo capacity of 7,500 metric tonnes. The design includes a single cargo hold capable of carrying bulk, general, and project cargo, with containers placed on hatch covers. These vessels are specifically designed to transport large windmill blades on deck.
The contract for the 7th and 8th MPVs was signed by Cdr Prasenjit Roy, IN (Retd), Deputy General Manager (Commercial Shipbuilding) at GRSE, and Thomas Rehder, Managing Director of Carsten Rehder. The signing ceremony was attended by Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Chairman & Managing Director of GRSE, Jonas Meinhardt, Managing Director of Carsten Rehder, and other senior officials.
