Grew Energy, a prominent renewable energy venture under the Chiripal Group, has embarked on a significant endeavor to establish a fully integrated solar module manufacturing unit in Jammu & Kashmir. With a committed investment of INR 4,500 crore ($538.85 million), the company aims to bolster India’s renewable energy sector and contribute to its ambitious clean energy targets.
The forthcoming manufacturing facility, poised to be one of the largest of its kind in the region, will have a robust capacity to produce 3.2 GW of high-efficiency solar modules annually, in addition to 2.8 GW of ingots, wafers, and cells. This comprehensive setup signifies Grew Energy’s commitment to advancing renewable energy technology and infrastructure within the country.
In a groundbreaking ceremony held today at the proposed site in Kathua, Grew Energy underscored its pioneering role as India’s first renewable energy player to establish a manufacturing facility in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The facility, situated across 80 acres of land, will be outfitted with state-of-the-art automated machinery and adhere to international standards, marking a significant milestone for solar manufacturing in India.
Vinay Thadani, CEO and Director of Grew Energy, expressed gratitude to the government for its support and emphasized the transformative impact of the new plant on the socio-economic landscape of the region. Thadani highlighted the facility’s role in fostering employment opportunities and driving skill development among the youth of Jammu & Kashmir. He also emphasized the plant’s contribution to India’s journey towards achieving net-zero emissions.
Thadani further elaborated on Grew Energy’s strategic vision, stating, “With the establishment of our Kathua facility and our existing 2.8 GW module manufacturing facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Grew will achieve a total of 6 GW manufacturing capacity for modules and 2.8 GW for solar components by FY 2025.”
Grew Energy’s ambitious initiative aligns with India’s broader objectives of accelerating renewable energy adoption, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable economic development. The establishment of the Kathua facility is expected to catalyze positive change, empower local communities, and fortify India’s position as a global leader in renewable energy innovation and manufacturing.
As construction commences on the groundbreaking project, stakeholders eagerly anticipate the positive socio-economic impact and transformative potential of Grew Energy’s investment in the renewable energy landscape of Jammu & Kashmir.
