GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd has joined forces with Bekaert to introduce a fleet of LNG-powered trucks for the company’s logistics operations. The initiative, which began with trucks based at Bekaert’s Ranjangaon Plant, is part of a pilot program aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of its transportation activities.
According to GreenLine, each LNG truck is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 24 tonnes annually. This effort supports Bekaert’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and generating 65% of its sales from sustainable solutions.
“Our collaboration with Bekaert underscores the growing commitment of progressive companies to embrace large-scale sustainability initiatives,” said Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine Mobility Solutions. “We provide not just eco-friendly trucks but also a comprehensive ecosystem that includes LNG refueling and real-time telematics.”
Dinesh Mukhedkar, Procurement Operations Lead for South Asia at Bekaert, emphasized that the decarbonization of logistics aligns with the company’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
GreenLine, an Essar venture, has already completed over 40 million kilometers with its LNG truck fleet, preventing the emission of more than 10,000 tonnes of CO₂. The company aims to expand its fleet to 10,000 LNG and electric vehicles, along with the development of 100 LNG refueling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery swapping facilities throughout India.
In India, the transportation sector is a major contributor to carbon emissions, with heavy commercial vehicles significantly impacting air quality in urban areas. As part of its climate commitments, the Indian government has been promoting natural gas as a cleaner alternative to conventional fuels.
LNG-powered trucks emit fewer particulate matter and nitrogen oxides than their diesel counterparts, while also generating less noise pollution. However, the broader adoption of LNG vehicles faces challenges such as limited refueling infrastructure and higher upfront investment costs. For Bekaert, which operates in over 40 countries and reported €4.0 billion in sales in 2024, this initiative is part of a broader sustainability strategy.
The Belgium-based company specializes in steel wire transformation and coating technologies used in sustainable construction and energy transition sectors. India has set ambitious targets to increase natural gas’s share in its energy mix from the current 6% to 15% by 2030, with commercial transportation identified as a key sector for reducing emissions.
