Greenko ZeroC, based in Hyderabad, has inked a significant agreement to provide renewable ammonia to Yara Clean Ammonia, a prominent global player in the ammonia trade, headquartered in Norway. The deal, valued at an undisclosed amount, will see Yara utilizing green ammonia from Greenko for the production of low-emission fertilizers and for advancing low-carbon initiatives across various sectors such as shipping and power.

Under the terms of the agreement, Greenko ZeroC, the green ammonia production arm of AM Green, a renewable energy company, will supply renewable ammonia to Yara from the initial phase of its project located in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The agreement encompasses the long-term supply of up to 50% of renewable ammonia from Phase 1 of AM Green’s Kakinada facility, as outlined in a statement released by both companies.

AM Green is currently in the process of developing a mega green ammonia facility in Kakinada, with an initial production capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum, with plans to scale up to 5 million tonnes per annum by 2030. The plant is slated to commence production and export of renewable ammonia by 2027.

The renewable ammonia and other sustainable fuels produced by AM Green’s platform will comply with the European Union’s renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) standards, aligning with stringent sustainability directives.

Yara, leveraging its extensive expertise in global ammonia production, logistics, and trade, aims to seize growth opportunities in low-emission fuel sectors such as shipping and power. Additionally, Yara Clean Ammonia is committed to facilitating carbon-free food production and supplying renewable ammonia for various industrial applications.

Hans Olav Raen, CEO of Yara Clean Ammonia, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “The AM Green Kakinada project expands our portfolio of ammonia produced with renewable energy.”

AM Green, led by the founders of Hyderabad-based Greenko Group, Anil Chalamalasetty and Mahesh Kolli, is poised to emerge as a leading producer of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and other sustainable molecules. Mahesh Kolli, President of AM Green, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and execution, reinforcing its position as a global leader in clean energy transition solutions.

In India, AM Green is spearheading the development of production capabilities for various green molecules, including green hydrogen, green ammonia, biofuels, e-methanol, and sustainable aviation fuels. Additionally, the venture is poised to establish an international renewables and storage business and collaborate with Belgium-based engineering group John Cockerill to manufacture electrolyzers, further advancing decarbonization efforts on a global scale.
