In a landmark moment for India’s electric vehicle sector, Greaves Electric Mobility Ltd (GEML) has raised the bar for EV performance with its latest model, Eltra City XTRA. Covering an uninterrupted 324 kilometers from Bangalore to Ranipet on a single charge, the vehicle has earned a prestigious entry into the India Book of Records — setting a new national benchmark for distance travelled by an electric passenger 3-wheeler.

The milestone run, part of Freedom Ride 2.0, began at Greaves’ R&D center in Bengaluru and concluded at the Ampere plant in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu. The initiative highlights India’s strides in electric mobility, engineering self-reliance, and the transition to sustainable transport.

“This achievement is more than just a number—it reinforces our promise to deliver electric vehicles that meet real-world demands,” said Manoj MP Chief Business Officer at GEML. “With the Eltra City XTRA, we’re not only demonstrating superior technology but also reaffirming our focus on reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness for everyday users.”

Unveiled earlier this month, the Eltra City XTRA builds on the legacy of its predecessor, which had achieved a 225 km run between Bangalore and Mysore in 2024. The new model integrates a high-efficiency LFP battery, advanced electronics, and a user-friendly digital interface aimed at boosting operational efficiency for drivers and fleet operators alike.

The Eltra City XTRA is packed with impressive features designed for real-world performance. It offers a practical range of approximately 170 km on a single charge, even with a full load, and reaches a top speed of 60 km/h. The vehicle is engineered to carry a substantial payload of up to 330 kg and tackle gradients of up to 12°, making it perfect for demanding routes.

Powered by a robust 9.5 kW motor and a 10.75 kWh IP67-rated LFP battery, it ensures smooth and reliable operation. The battery charges fully in just 4-5 hours, offering convenience for daily use. Its 12-inch radial tyres enhance ride comfort and ground clearance, while the 6.2-inch digital cluster with BLE connectivity keeps drivers informed with real-time alerts, navigation, and distance-to-empty indicators.

The Eltra City XTRA is backed by a 5-year or 1.2 lakh km battery warranty, and a 3-year or 80,000 km vehicle warranty, underlining Greaves’ commitment to long-term dependability. Speaking on the achievement, Vikas Singh, Managing Director at GEML, said, “This ride is symbolic of how EVs can directly uplift livelihoods while advancing India’s climate goals. The Eltra City XTRA is tailored for Indian roads and the people who rely on them for their livelihood.”

As demand grows for reliable electric alternatives in urban and peri-urban transport, GEML continues to expand its offerings across segments. With deep manufacturing experience, strong after-sales support, and the legacy of parent company Greaves Cotton Ltd, GEML is well-positioned to lead the next wave of electric adoption in India.

Greaves Cotton Ltd (GCL), with a 165-year heritage, has evolved into a multi-product, fuel-agnostic technology group. Through its five business divisions—Greaves Engineering, Electric Mobility, Retail, Finance, and Technologies—the company addresses a wide spectrum of mobility needs. GCL’s investments in digital platforms, innovation, and green technology are focused on making transportation accessible, clean, and economically viable.

Greaves Electric Mobility Ltd has been a front-runner in the Indian EV space for over 16 years, actively developing two- and three-wheeler electric vehicles. Through subsidiaries like MLR Auto Ltd. and Bestway Agencies Pvt Ltd the company aims to provide sustainable, last-mile transportation solutions across the country.
