Grasim Industries Ltd, part of the Aditya Birla Group, announced the start of commercial resin production at its Birla Opus Paints plant in Mahad, Maharashtra, on Wednesday, June 25. The resin manufacturing unit, which has an annual capacity of 22 million litres, officially began operations on June 24, 2025. The move will help the company meet the growing demand for resins needed in-house for paint production. Resins are essential in paint formulations, serving as binders that ensure adhesion, durability, and proper film formation.
Earlier in March 2025, Grasim had commenced commercial operations at the Mahad plant, which is equipped with a total annual capacity of 180 million litres for water-based paints, 20 million litres for distemper, and 30 million litres for solvent-based paints. For the quarter ending in June 2025 (Q425), the company reported a 31.9% year-on-year revenue growth, reaching ₹8,926 crore, surpassing the expected ₹8,675 crore. The strong performance was driven by significant growth in both its core and new business segments.
As part of its ongoing transformation, Grasim has ventured into the paints industry with its new brand, Birla Opus. Of the six planned plants for manufacturing decorative paints across India, five have already begun operations as of March 2025. In line with its strategy to tap into the B2B digital space, Grasim has launched Birla Pivot, an online marketplace for building materials.
The company’s vast reach extends through its subsidiaries: UltraTech Cement, India’s largest cement producer; Aditya Birla Capital, a leading diversified financial services player; and Aditya Birla Renewables, a key player in clean energy solutions. Grasim remains committed to creating long-term value for over 45,000 employees, 257,000 shareholders, and its wider community. In FY 2025, the company achieved consolidated net revenues of ₹1,48,478 crore, with an EBITDA of ₹20,003 crore.
