GPS Renewables, a full-stack biofuels company providing technology and project solutions for climate-friendly biofuel initiatives, along with its subsidiary Proweps, has announced an exclusive partnership with Germany’s Biogastechnik Süd GmbH (BGTS). Together, they will introduce the advanced Varibull Paddle Agitator to the Indian market. This collaboration is aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of biogas plants and reducing costs for developers of compressed biogas (CBG) in India.
Currently, most CBG developers rely on conventional agitators—mechanical mixers used to blend organic waste and water within anaerobic digesters. These devices consume significant amounts of energy and often struggle with fibrous materials like paddy straw or Napier grass, resulting in poor mixing, crusting, and sediment buildup. The Varibull Paddle Agitator, developed by BGTS in Germany, addresses these challenges by offering superior mixing efficiency, better handling of difficult substrates, and lower power requirements.
The paddle agitators will be manufactured at GPS Renewables’ Bengaluru facility and priced competitively compared to existing conventional equipment. The company also plans to explore export opportunities, supporting its broader goal of making advanced biogas technologies more accessible.
Rajesh Ayyappasur, Director – Business Development & Partnerships at GPS Renewables, stated, “At GPS Renewables, we are committed to introducing innovative solutions that tackle the real challenges faced in biogas production across India. Whether through in-house development or strategic collaborations, we are proud to bring world-class technology like the Varibull Paddle Agitator to the market. BGTS is a pioneer in biogas components, and their solution is globally trusted for its efficiency, durability, and low maintenance.”
Mainak Chakraborty, CEO and Co-founder of GPS Renewables, added, “Many CBG plants struggle with issues such as sediment build-up, uneven mixing, and excessive energy use, which hinder production and reliability. As a leading biofuels provider offering critical process equipment under our OptiMaxx brand, we are addressing these challenges through technology partnerships and research-driven solutions. The Varibull Paddle Agitator is designed for tough substrates and will help improve mixing, reduce energy consumption, and ensure dependable operation.”
Gregor Maier, CEO of Biogastechnik Süd, commented, “Our goal has always been to deliver robust and efficient technologies that provide long-term value for biogas operators. India’s growing bioenergy sector makes it an important market for us. Partnering with GPS Renewables, whose deep sector expertise and execution capabilities align perfectly with our approach, will help bring our solutions to a broader audience and support sustainable growth.”
Robert Ohneberg, International Sales Manager at Biogastechnik Süd, noted, “Our products are designed to perform under the most challenging conditions. Many plants in India face issues such as uneven mixing and high energy consumption. Together with GPS Renewables, we aim to overcome these obstacles and offer solutions that enhance process stability, increase gas yields, and reduce operational costs.”
Under this partnership, GPS Renewables will integrate and distribute the Varibull Paddle Agitator within its turnkey plant solutions and OptiMaxx equipment offerings, providing Indian CBG developers with a proven and advanced mixing solution.
