Tech giants Google and Nvidia have announced plans to expand their focus on artificial intelligence (AI) in India after discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following the meeting, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted Modi’s keen interest in AI and its potential impact on India’s industries and society. Huang emphasized that India’s talent pool, particularly in computer science, presents a significant opportunity for the nation to become a major player in AI innovation.

Nvidia, which holds 88% of the global market share for Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) critical for AI workloads, is actively partnering with Indian firms, including Yotta Data Services, which aims to scale its GPU capacity to over 32,000 units by 2025. Huang noted that AI is transforming India’s startup ecosystem, with many of the country’s emerging companies integrating AI into their operations.

Huang also praised India’s educational institutions, mentioning that every Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) now hosts an Nvidia AI Center of Excellence, aimed at training professionals and students to excel in AI technology. He called this “India’s moment” to seize the AI revolution.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai echoed similar sentiments, noting Modi’s push for technological advancements in India through his Digital India vision. Pichai mentioned the Prime Minister’s challenge for Google to focus on AI applications in sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture. He also stressed Google’s commitment to robust AI investments in India, adding that Modi’s vision centers on ensuring AI benefits all Indians.

The meeting, which took place during Modi’s US visit, brought together leaders from companies specializing in AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors, marking a significant step towards deepening India’s role in cutting-edge technologies.
