Godrej & Boyce has introduced the first lithium-ion battery-powered forklift in India, featuring a Battery Management System (BMS) developed entirely in-house. This advanced system, created in collaboration with Log9 Materials, incorporates lithium-ion cells with 30% of production localized, alongside a proprietary BMS that is fully designed and manufactured in India. The company has set a goal to achieve 100% cell localization by the next year.
This innovation addresses a crucial need in India’s material handling industry by offering a self-sufficient and secure lithium-ion battery system, which the company claims is a pioneering product in the Indian market. Godrej & Boyce plans to expand this cutting-edge technology to other material handling equipment, benefiting sectors such as automotive, FMCG, consumer durables, retail (including e-commerce), pharmaceuticals, and other significant manufacturing industries.
