Godavari Biorefineries Limited, through its biotech unit Sathgen Therapeutics, has secured a patent from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) for its proprietary molecule HYDROXY-1,4-NAPHTHALENEDIONE. This compound belongs to a newly developed class of agents that have shown strong activity against cancer cells and cancer stem cells in laboratory tests.
In early research, the molecule demonstrated effectiveness against several types of cancer, including breast and prostate cancers. The patent strengthens the intellectual property protection for this promising compound in one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical markets.
Dr Sangeeta Srivastava, Executive Director at Godavari Biorefineries, commented, “Our efforts are driven by deep scientific research and the need to address complex medical conditions. Securing this patent in China supports the ongoing development of our lead candidate at Sathgen Therapeutics and our broader work in drug discovery.”
