Godavari Biorefineries Limited (GBL), a leader in renewable chemicals and biofuels, has announced plans to invest ₹130 crore in a new 200 KLPD corn/grain-based ethanol distillery. This expansion will enhance the company’s ethanol production capacity and introduce a dual-feedstock capability, increasing operational flexibility. GBL has also reported a 25% year-on-year growth in revenue for H1FY25, reflecting its strong operational performance and commitment to sustainable growth.
The proposed investment involves the development of a 200 KLPD corn/grain-based distillery, which is expected to significantly enhance production capacity. The total investment for the project is ₹130 crore, with financing to be secured through a combination of internal accruals and debt. This strategic move aims to boost operational efficiency and meet growing demand in the sector.
The distillery is anticipated to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of FY 2026. With its planned capacity, the project is poised to contribute to the expansion of the company’s production capabilities and strengthen its position in the market. The investment represents a key milestone in the company’s growth strategy, focusing on sustainable development and increased output.
This strategic investment aligns with GBL’s vision of supporting India’s green energy transition while strengthening resilience against climate-related disruptions. The new facility will allow GBL to use alternative feedstocks like maize, ensuring stability in production even during poor monsoon seasons or policy changes.
Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of GBL, commented, “This new corn/grain-based ethanol production unit will complement our sugarcane-based operations, providing us with a dual-feedstock model. It will enhance our resilience against climate-related disruptions and support India’s growing demand for ethanol under the blending program.”
The expansion comes at a critical time, as India’s ethanol demand rises due to its ambitious blending targets and increasing energy needs for mobility. By adopting dual-feedstock technology, GBL aims to strengthen its market position and ensure consistent growth.
Godavari Biorefineries Limited, part of the Somaiya Group, is a prominent integrated biorefinery focused on producing bio-based chemicals, ethanol, and sugar.
