At the Annual General Meeting of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) on October 25 at the Chennai Trade Centre, industry pioneer Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman and Co-Founder of Suzlon Energy, was unanimously elected as Chairman. The new Executive Committee also appointed Dr Saravanan Manickam (VP India, Nordex) as Vice Chairman and Secretary, and Mr K Bharathy (CEO, Windar Renewable Energy) as Treasurer.
A global leader in climate action, Mr Girish Tanti brings extensive experience, holding multiple leadership roles such as Vice Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and Co-Chair of CII’s National Committee on Renewable Energy. Other notable committee members include Mr RPV Prasad (Envision Energy), Mr Amit Kansal (Senvion), Mr Navin Dewaji (SGRE), Mr Siva Murali (ZF Wind Power), Dr Venkataraman Balakrishnan (Aditya Birla Advanced Materials), and Mr Pandu Chillakuru (Flender).
Upon his appointment, Mr. Tanti stated, “To keep global temperature rise within 1.5 degrees, renewable energy capacity must triple by 2030. India’s target of 50% energy from renewable sources, with 100 GW from wind by 2030, is ambitious yet achievable with our strong local manufacturing and supply chain ecosystem. Continued government support through policies and incentives is essential to maximize this potential and make India a global leader in wind energy manufacturing.”
The meeting coincided with the Windergy India 2024 trade fair, backed by the Ministry of Power, MNRE, and NITI Aayog, featuring dignitaries like Shri Sudeep Jain (MNRE) and Dr Aneesh Sekhar (Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd.). This year’s event saw record participation, with over 300 exhibitors, 10,000 visitors, and representation from more than 20 countries.
