As India accelerates its progress toward a Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047 and aims for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy by 2030, Girish Tanti, Co-Founder of Suzlon Group, has been appointed Chairman of the CII Renewable Energy Manufacturing Council and the CII National Committee on Renewable Energy for the term 2025-26. Under Mr Tanti’s leadership, the committees will work toward shaping a balanced and inclusive energy strategy that supports the growth of all renewable technologies.

A pioneer of India’s renewable energy sector, Mr Tanti helped launch the country’s renewable energy movement more than three decades ago, long before it became a global priority. He has been a driving force in India’s clean energy transition and continues to champion efforts to make the nation energy-independent and sustainable. With extensive global experience, Mr Tanti also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Chairman of GWEC’s Global Supply Chain Forum, Chairman of GWEC India, and Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA).

Commenting on his new role, Mr Tanti said, “A developed India must rely on clean, reliable, and self-sufficient energy. This is a critical moment in our energy journey, and we must move from vision to execution. Renewable energy is not just about reducing emissions; it’s about fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and meeting our energy needs. The ‘Make in India’ initiative will be key in making this transformation a reality.

India has already achieved 222 GW of renewable energy capacity, and our next goal is to double that in less than six years to meet the 500 GW target. As the world looks to India, we must set a bold example. My focus will be on strengthening partnerships between the government and industry, driving national energy goals, and boosting domestic manufacturing in renewables, including wind, solar, hydro, and bioenergy.”

The Suzlon Group is a global leader in renewable energy solutions, with over 21.1 GW of wind energy capacity installed across 17 countries.
