German Chancellor Scholz and Prime Minister Modi discussed ways to boost India-Germany cooperation and further augment trade ties.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited India on the 25th and 26th of February 2023, accompanied by a business delegation from the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA). This marks the fourth meeting between Chancellor Scholz and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last 10 months. This visit of Chancellor Scholz marks a significant step forward in strengthening the partnership between India and Germany, as both countries work to expand their trade and investment ties.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s recent visit to India, accompanied by a business delegation from the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA), has emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties between the two countries. During his visit, Chancellor Scholz met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss ways to deepen collaboration in key areas such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, and biofuels. The two leaders also chaired a high-level business round-table, bringing together industry leaders from both countries to explore opportunities for collaboration in the digital transformation, fintech, IT, telecom, and supply chain diversification sectors.

During their meeting, the two leaders discussed various ways to boost India-Germany cooperation, including further strengthening their trade ties. In particular, they emphasized the need to deepen their collaboration in the areas of renewable energy, green hydrogen, and biofuels. To advance these efforts, Chancellor Scholz and Prime Minister Modi jointly chaired a high-level business round-table that brought together industry leaders from both countries. Discussions centred on topics such as digital transformation, fintech, IT, telecom, and supply chain diversification.

The meeting was seen as a significant step forward in strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries. Both India and Germany have been working to expand their trade and investment ties, with Germany ranking as India’s largest trading partner in the European Union. Commenting on the visit, Chancellor Scholz stated that “India is a crucial partner for Germany, both in terms of economic cooperation and strategic ties. I am confident that our joint efforts will lead to the further growth of our economic relations and contribute to the prosperity of both our countries.”

Prime Minister Modi echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the potential for greater collaboration between India and Germany in the areas of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He added that “India and Germany share a long-standing relationship based on shared values and mutual respect. Our partnership has immense potential, and I look forward to working closely with Chancellor Scholz to strengthen it further.”
