On November 3, Gensol Engineering announced it has won a ₹780 crore solar PV project from a major public utility in Maharashtra. This large-scale turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract involves the establishment of a 150 MWac ground-mounted solar PV power plant, set to be completed over a span of 15 months.
Gensol Engineering will oversee all stages of the project, including land acquisition, design, engineering, procurement, and logistics. The company will also handle the manufacturing, supply, construction, inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning of the plant, as well as the development of the necessary power evacuation infrastructure to connect to the state transmission utility (STU) substation. Additionally, the contract includes three years of operation and maintenance for the facility, covering the switchyard and transmission infrastructure.
“This major project highlights Gensol’s expanding capabilities as a provider of comprehensive, end-to-end solutions,” stated Shilpa Urhekar, CEO of Solar EPC (India) at Gensol Engineering. The company reported a 29% increase in net profit after tax, reaching ₹22.93 crore for the September quarter, up from ₹17.71 crore the previous year. Total income also rose to ₹346.82 crore in the second quarter, compared to ₹304.87 crore last year.
In a separate initiative last month, Gensol partnered with Matrix Gas & Renewables Ltd to create India’s first and largest green hydrogen-powered steel facility. This project, part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aims to transform sustainable steel production by utilizing 100% green hydrogen rather than traditional fossil fuels, according to Gensol Engineering’s stock exchange filing.
The project is one of three pilot programs authorized by MECON in collaboration with the Ministry of Steel and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The pilot plant is designed to produce 50 tonnes per day (TPD) and is expected to serve as a model for similar facilities throughout India.
