Gebrüder Weiss, the international logistics powerhouse, is taking a crucial role in the transportation of an innovative solar car to Australia for the Centauri Solar Racing Team from Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zurich (ETH). The vehicle is destined to compete in the upcoming World Solar Challenge, commencing in late October 2023. This renowned event involves 31 teams traversing a staggering 3,000 kilometers across the Australian outback from Darwin to Adelaide solely powered by solar energy.
In order to ensure the seamless arrival of this cutting-edge solar-powered car on the other side of the world, Gebrüder Weiss has orchestrated a tailored logistics solution incorporating overland transport, sea freight, and air cargo.
Frank Haas, Head of Corporate Brand Strategy and Communications at Gebrüder Weiss, emphasized, “Our status as a global logistics company positions us as a proponent of intelligent transport solutions, actively shaping the mobility landscape of the future. a Centauri’s solar car embodies innovation that could potentially revolutionize the transport industry, and that’s precisely why we’re standing behind the team as they journey to Australia.”

For nearly a year, the students at Centauri have dedicated themselves to conceiving and realizing this state-of-the-art solar car. Engineered for both robustness and maximum energy efficiency, the vehicle symbolizes a future where environmental concerns take center stage. Alexandr Ebnöther, team manager at a Centauri, elaborates, “While winning the race is certainly a goal, it’s equally significant for us to actively contribute to the development of efficient and ecologically sound solutions. Thanks to Gebrüder Weiss’ support, we can showcase the viability of solar-powered cars and the potential for sustainable mobility.”
Gebrüder Weiss is currently placing a particular emphasis on exploring alternative propulsion methods. In fact, aCentauri’s solar car is embarking on the initial leg of its journey using the logistics company’s hydrogen truck, which boasts zero emissions.
The focal points of this collaboration are consistently communicated by Gebrüder Weiss through a dedicated landing page (http://www.gw-world.com/solarracing) as well as across various social media channels, ensuring that the progress and preparations for the partnership are widely accessible and transparent.
