GE Vernova will invest ₹140 crore through its listed subsidiary, GE Vernova T&D India Ltd, to expand its manufacturing and engineering capabilities in India. The initiative is focused on meeting increasing demand for advanced grid infrastructure both within the country and in high-growth international markets.

The capital will fund a new manufacturing line at the company’s existing facility in Pallavaram, Chennai, and the development of a new engineering and testing facility in Noida. These expansions will support the production and validation of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) technologies—essential components for improving grid efficiency, stability, and renewable energy integration.

The Chennai line will produce Line Commutated Converter (LCC) HVDC valves and Voltage Source Converter (VSC) STATCOM valves, which are critical for long-distance transmission and the integration of renewable sources like solar and wind. The Noida facility will focus on engineering design, system validation, and testing, and will also produce control systems to ensure reliability under real-world grid conditions. Operations at the Noida lab are scheduled to begin by the end of 2025, while the expanded production line in Chennai is expected to be operational by early 2027.

This investment forms part of GE Vernova’s broader capital expenditure program of USD 4 billion through 2028 and supports its “Asia for Asia” strategy, which focuses on strengthening regional manufacturing to enhance supply chain resilience and serve local demand more effectively. The expansion also aligns with India’s energy transition goals, supporting domestic manufacturing of technologies that facilitate cleaner, more efficient electricity delivery across sectors—from urban centers to industrial zones.
