GE Aerospace has announced an investment of ₹100 crore in its Pune manufacturing facility, further expanding its manufacturing capabilities in India and strengthening its long-term commitment to the country’s aerospace sector. The latest investment will support the introduction of advanced welding technologies, precision inspection systems, specialized tools, gauges, fixtures, and additional infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing production capacity and manufacturing precision. The expansion is expected to strengthen the facility’s ability to produce high-quality aerospace engine components for customers across global markets.
This announcement adds to the ₹410 crore investment made by GE Aerospace in the Pune facility over the past two years, taking the company’s cumulative investment in the site to more than ₹510 crore over a three-year period. Previous investments focused on automation, advanced manufacturing processes, and capability expansion for next-generation aerospace engine components.
The new investment will further enhance the Pune facility’s production capabilities for several of GE Aerospace’s major engine programs, including the GE90, GEnx, and GE9X engines, along with the LEAP engine program developed by CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.
Commenting on the development, Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of the Pune manufacturing facility, said the continued investments reflect GE Aerospace’s long-term confidence in India and the growing importance of the Pune facility within the company’s global manufacturing network. He added that the expansion will not only support customers worldwide but also create additional opportunities for apprentices, employees, and supplier partners connected to the facility’s operations.
Over the last decade, the Pune facility has evolved into a high-capability aerospace manufacturing hub, playing a significant role in strengthening India’s aerospace supplier ecosystem and supporting the company’s global supply chain through precision engineering and advanced manufacturing expertise.
The facility currently works with more than 300 local suppliers and is part of a wider network of over 2,200 GE Aerospace suppliers across India. Through these partnerships, the company continues to contribute to the growth of India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem while supporting global aviation programs with locally manufactured components.
Workforce development remains another major focus area for the Pune facility. GE Aerospace stated that its structured two-year apprenticeship program enrolls more than 500 apprentices every year, combining classroom learning with hands-on technical training. The company’s dedicated Weld School provides specialized TIG welding training designed to develop skilled aerospace manufacturing professionals.
Since 2015, the Pune facility has trained more than 5,000 production associates, helping create a strong pipeline of technical talent for India’s growing aerospace manufacturing sector. Recent workforce development and community grants have also supported technical education and skill development initiatives in the region.
The latest announcement further reinforces GE Aerospace’s broader strategy of expanding its engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain footprint in India. The company has maintained a presence in India’s aviation sector for more than four decades and currently supports the country’s commercial and defense aviation ecosystem through engines, systems, manufacturing, and engineering operations.
GE Aerospace engines power several Indian commercial airlines, while its defense technologies support platforms such as the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Mk1, helicopters, naval frigates, and aircraft carriers operated by the Indian armed forces. The company’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru, which has completed 25 years of operations, continues to contribute to the development of advanced aviation technologies and next-generation aerospace innovations.
