G+D Mobile Security Introduces Groundbreaking NB-IoT iSIM Solution with Telit Cinterion Module

G+D

Giesecke+Devrient Mobile Security (G+D) has launched a next-generation Integrated SIM (iSIM) solution tailored for NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) applications, marking a major milestone in IoT connectivity. The integrated SIM (iSIM) is set to redefine the connectivity, security, and sustainability of next-generation IoT devices.

Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), in partnership with Telit Cinterion, a global leader in IoT products and solutions, has developed an advanced iSIM solution tailored for diverse NB-IoT applications, including smart metering, precision agriculture, and asset tracking. At the core of this innovation lies the iSIM, also known as an integrated universal integrated circuit card (iUICC).

Unlike traditional pluggable SIMs or soldered eSIMs, the iSIM is embedded as a tamper-resistant element (TRE) within a system-on-a-chip (SoC). This architecture integrates the iSIM with a baseband chipset, forming a compact connectivity module.

This design delivers key advantages such as lower power consumption, cost efficiency, enhanced security, and reduced environmental impact. Its minimal footprint enables the development of lightweight, cost-effective devices that align with sustainability goals.

G+D’s secure, certified iSIM operating system (iSIM-OS) ensures robust protection by isolating the hardware within the chip. In collaboration with a global network operator, G+D has successfully qualified its iSIM-OS on Telit Cinterion’s NE310L2 NB-IoT module, built on Sony’s Altair ALT1255 chipset.

This marks a significant milestone as G+D becomes one of the first providers of an iSIM-OS for Sony’s optimized Altair NB-IoT chipsets. The platform-independent iSIM-OS is compatible with a range of iSIM-enabled chipsets, including Sony’s ALT1250, ALT1255, and ALT1350 LTE-M and NB-IoT solutions, enabling broad applications across IoT ecosystems.

“G+D is committed to advancing iSIM technology through collaboration and innovation,” said BeeGek Lim, Global Vice President at G+D. “By providing secure and cost-effective connectivity solutions, we aim to unlock the full potential of IoT applications.”

Jose Sanchez, Senior Director at Telit Cinterion, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the collaboration’s role in driving iSIM innovation. Similarly, Dima Feldman, VP of Product Management at Sony Semiconductor Israel, emphasized the transformative potential of iSIM technology in simplifying connectivity and logistics for industrial IoT applications, noting that the ALT1255 is the first NB-IoT chipset with integrated iSIM capabilities.
