GAIL (India) Limited, the country’s leading natural gas utility, is moving steadily toward the completion of its ambitious Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda Pipeline (MNJPL), a key part of India’s expanding National Gas Grid. Recognized as a priority infrastructure project under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the pipeline spans approximately 1,707 kilometers, cutting across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

This project is expected to significantly boost the availability of cleaner energy in the region by meeting the growing demand from both City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks and the industrial sector. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has mapped 17 Geographical Areas (GAs), covering nearly 60 districts along the route of the pipeline to extend the reach of natural gas infrastructure.

Construction is now fully completed in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh. In Maharashtra, work is in its final phase, with only 11 kilometers left to be laid. Out of the entire stretch, 1,440 kilometers of the pipeline is already ready for commissioning and gas flow.

With field execution nearing the finish line in Maharashtra, GAIL has announced its target for full commissioning of the MNJPL pipeline by December 31, 2025. This timeline was formally endorsed by GAIL’s Board of Directors during their meeting held on September 24, 2025.
