FUJIFILM SonoSite, a leading provider of point-of-care ultrasound solutions, is increasing its focus on India for the development of advanced technologies, including AI applications. The company aims to address complex global challenges for its customers by leveraging India’s talent and resources, according to Global CEO Richard Fabian.
On Tuesday, the company inaugurated its new software Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Noida, where it plans to foster innovation in medical technologies. FUJIFILM SonoSite is also exploring the possibility of manufacturing value products locally to serve international markets as part of its growth strategy in India.
“We have our headquarters in Bothell with a software team, but the expansion and growth are happening right here in Noida with this remarkable team,” said Fabian. “This is where we’ll focus on developing not only great workflow solutions but also advanced AI applications to address our customers’ most complex needs.”
India’s robust software engineering talent, along with access to skilled physicians and a rapidly evolving healthcare system, makes it an ideal location for FUJIFILM SonoSite’s future development initiatives. Fabian highlighted the importance of India’s capabilities in healthcare and technology as the company transforms its products and services to meet evolving market demands.
Regarding hiring at the new CoE, Fabian mentioned that the center currently employs 40 people and will continue to expand in the coming years. “We are committed to growing the CoE and investing in the Indian market, which has shown strong potential for our business,” he added.
The company, which currently imports its devices from the US, is also evaluating the possibility of manufacturing products in India to better serve emerging markets globally. “The ‘Make in India’ initiative could help us expand not only within India but also to other emerging markets where our products may be a good fit,” said Fabian.
Regarding manufacturing for the US market, Fabian clarified that it wouldn’t be practical to shift production from the US for premium products, as their manufacturing processes are already well-established. However, for value products sold primarily outside the US, manufacturing in India could be a viable option.
FUJIFILM SonoSite’s Global VP of R&D, Richard Kelly, added that the Noida CoE will collaborate with the company’s R&D hub in Seattle to optimize ultrasound systems’ performance and integrate advanced technologies. The goal is to drive medical innovation through close partnerships with clinicians, aiming to transform healthcare solutions.
