Fronius has unveiled the Velocity Assistant, or Velo, a groundbreaking system designed to revolutionize manual MIG/MAG welding. First showcased at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN in Essen and FABTECH in Chicago, Velo offers a solution for those who need to produce long, precise welds consistently.
This innovative tool provides assisted torch guidance and ensures a constant welding speed, making it easier to achieve flawless, reproducible seams while reducing physical strain. Velo is particularly valuable for applications requiring long, even welds, such as in commercial transportation, heavy machinery, steel construction, and apparatus engineering.
The key feature of the Velo system is its unique Velo wire, which operates without an arc or additional gas feed. This wire makes contact with the workpiece in its solid form, generating forward movement through friction.
The travel speed of the Velo wire regulates the welding speed, helping to maintain a consistent distance between the contact tip and the workpiece. This innovative system pushes the torch along the seam, notch, or chamfer, allowing for perfect welds with minimal extra material added. Velo’s precise control ensures that even long welds remain accurate and efficient without requiring special seam preparation.
Velo is compatible with existing Fronius TPS/i devices from 320 A and iWave Multiprocess PRO systems, making it easy to retrofit into current setups. The integration process is simple, requiring only a wirefeeder, a torch adapter, and software activation.
This upgrade provides welders with improved ergonomics and flexibility, including a 360° rotatable holder and a five-meter Velo wire feeding system that can be activated directly on the welding torch. Whether for pipe welding or multi-layer applications, Velo enhances productivity and ease of use while maintaining top-notch seam quality. With Velo, even beginners can quickly produce high-quality welds, and experienced welders can benefit from reduced strain during long, complex tasks.
