Frankfurt Airport is enhancing security efficiency with the installation of over 100 advanced scanners from technology provider Rohde & Schwarz. These state-of-the-art R&S QPS201 scanners, chosen for their high detection accuracy and user-friendly operation, will be rolled out across current and future security lanes over the next three years.

The R&S QPS201 model leverages cutting-edge millimeter-wave technology and AI-powered algorithms to detect prohibited items while minimizing false alarms. The contract with Rohde & Schwarz follows Fraport’s recent transfer of checkpoint management responsibilities from German Federal Police in 2023, allowing the airport operator to manage and upgrade its security infrastructure directly.

“Partnering with Rohde & Schwarz enables us to advance our passenger security experience, delivering faster, more efficient screenings while maintaining high safety standards,” said Sascha König, Senior Vice President of Aviation Passenger Process at Fraport AG.

Rohde & Schwarz, a long-time partner to the global aviation industry, has supplied its scanners worldwide, meeting the standards of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and the U.S. Transport Security Administration (TSA). Headquartered in Munich, the company has been a leader in test and measurement, secure communications, and network solutions for nearly 90 years, generating €2.93 billion in revenue last fiscal year.

Fraport AG, a global airport management leader, operates in 30 airports across four continents, with its Frankfurt hub handling 59.4 million passengers and nearly 1.9 million metric tons of cargo in 2023. Located at the heart of Europe’s transport networks, Frankfurt Airport remains a vital connection point for travelers and cargo worldwide.
