FPT Industrial, a brand under the Iveco Group focused on designing and producing low-impact powertrains, has achieved a significant milestone by producing its 100,000th natural gas (NG) engine. This landmark event occurred at its advanced manufacturing plant in Bourbon-Lancy, France, where the company has been producing NG engines since 1997.
The Bourbon-Lancy facility, with roots tracing back to 1874, employs around 1,200 people and is known for its high standards of quality and productivity. The plant gained World Class Manufacturing Gold Level status in 2021, a top classification for operational excellence. In 2022, it became part of the DOT (Driving Operations Together) program, which focuses on optimizing global operations by enhancing safety, quality, and overall performance. The plant is also recognized as an “Advanced Mentor” facility within this program.
Committed to sustainability, the Bourbon-Lancy plant prioritizes reducing the environmental impact of its industrial activities and protecting local biodiversity, making it an ideal location for producing NG-powered engines.
The 100,000th engine produced is the XCURSOR 13 NG model, designed for the truck market. This multi-fuel engine offers leading performance in power, torque, and braking, alongside an 8% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to its predecessor.
Developed using the WPI (Workplace Integration) approach, the XCURSOR 13 NG is built to last up to 1.2 million kilometers. Since launching the Cursor NG engine family in 2004, the plant has produced over 45,000 engines in various sizes, including 8, 9, and 13-liter models.
Vincent Barbosa, Plant Manager at Bourbon-Lancy, highlighted the factors behind this achievement: “This milestone reflects our industry-leading engine design, excellence in production engineering, and the dedication of our workforce. Together, these strengths have enabled us to meet market demand and deliver low-impact powertrains.”
FPT Industrial‘s natural gas engines contribute to cleaner air and reduced global warming, offering lower CO2 emissions, effective noise reduction, and impressive fuel economy through advanced combustion technology. The company now offers the broadest range of NG engines on the market, with solutions for light, medium, and heavy vehicles, as well as off-road machinery.
