FPT Industrial, a division of Iveco Group specializing in sustainable powertrains, and its distributor AS Labruna have been selected by the Wider shipyard to provide powertrain solutions for the groundbreaking WiderCat 92 hybrid catamaran. The third hull of this innovative vessel was recently launched at the Wider Vision Hub in Fano, Italy.
The WiderCat 92 features a cutting-edge serial hybrid propulsion system comprising two FPT Industrial N67 570 EVO 349 kW engines paired with twin 500 kW electric motors and a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack. This setup allows for a cruising speed of 12 knots using Electric Boost, while hybrid mode extends the range to 1,700 nautical miles at 6 knots.
In full-electric mode, the catamaran can travel 24 nautical miles at 6 knots or operate silently for up to 15 hours while anchored. Solar panels further enhance efficiency, providing energy self-sufficiency for nighttime operations.
The compact and efficient N67 570 EVO engines are equipped with advanced electronic common rail systems for optimal power, torque, and reliability while minimizing fuel consumption. Designed specifically for marine applications, these engines feature customized cooling systems and turbocharging tailored for high-performance maritime missions.
