Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn has invested USD 31.8 million (approx. Rs 267 crore) in new equipment for its Tamil Nadu plant, aiming to start production of Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Series in India, as reported by regulatory filings and industry sources.

This marks the first instance where Apple’s high-end Pro series iPhones will be manufactured outside of China. Foxconn’s filing states, “Subsidiary Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Private Limited announces obtaining of machinery equipment” valued at “USD 31,804,528.45” from “APPLE OPERATIONS LIMITED.”

According to sources, this investment is intended to expand capacity at the Tamil Nadu facility for iPhone 16 Pro production. Earlier this month, Apple announced its plans to launch the first-ever “made in India” iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models soon.

Shipments are expected to begin by the end of this month or early November. Apple launched the iPhone 16 series in India on September 20, with a notable price drop on the Pro models, thanks to the recent budget’s import duty reduction.

The iPhone 16 Pro starts at Rs 1,19,900, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,44,900, a reduction from the iPhone 15 Pro series’ launch prices of Rs 1,34,900 and Rs 1,59,900, respectively. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options, featuring the series’ largest displays yet, at 6.3 and 6.9 inches.

Prices for the assembled-in-India iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus remain unchanged, with the iPhone 16 starting at Rs 79,900 and the iPhone 16 Plus at Rs 89,900. Both models are available in storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
