Formlabs, a leading supplier of professional stereolithography (SLA) and selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing systems, has introduced Form Studio 1, a resin 3D printer designed to deliver professional-quality printing at an affordable price. The new printer combines high-resolution output, faster printing, ease of use and safety features, making resin 3D printing more accessible to engineers, designers, small businesses and hobbyists.

Form Studio 1 has been developed as an integrated printing ecosystem that combines the printer, resin materials and supporting software. It is built around Formlabs’ Low Force Display (LFD) technology and features a new print engine with a custom lens array and 28 LEDs. The system delivers a uniform light field of 6 mW/cm² to cure resin evenly and efficiently.

With 35-micron pixels and optimised anti-aliasing, the printer is designed to produce fine details and smooth surfaces. Lower peel forces and light-touch support structures help improve surface quality and simplify the removal of printed parts. According to Formlabs, most jobs can be completed in less than two hours, while its print success rate is comparable to that of the Form 4, which recorded a 98.7% success rate in third-party testing. Reliability testing for Form Studio 1 is ongoing.

Maxim Lobovsky, Co-founder and CEO of Formlabs, said the company’s objective has been to make professional resin printing accessible to more users. He added that Form Studio 1 aims to reduce costs and simplify printing while maintaining the quality required by professional users.

The printer has received UL GREENGUARD Gold Certification when used with Formlabs Alpha Resins and the Formlabs VOC Extractor. Its enclosed print chamber and low-odour resin formulations are designed for use in shared indoor environments, including small offices, workshops and homes. When paired with the VOC Extractor, total emissions are reduced to below 220 µg/m³, in accordance with the UL 2819 GREENGUARD Gold standard.

Formlabs has also introduced six Alpha Resins in Grey, White, Black, Clear, Model and Fast variants, starting at $29 per litre. According to the company, these materials meet ISO 10993 requirements for long-term skin contact exceeding 30 days after recommended post-processing. The formulations are designed to provide detailed finishes, functional properties and a range of printing speeds.

Additional products include Form Studio Wash+Cure, an integrated washing and curing unit; the VOC Extractor; and the Form Mobile App, which allows users to monitor print jobs remotely. Updates to PreForm software include Projects, which helps users organise build volumes and optimise part layouts. Formlabs has also introduced Nylon 11 Pro Powder for selected Fuse printers, offering greater elongation at break than Nylon 12 for applications requiring flexibility and impact resistance.

Formlabs, headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts, develops SLA and SLS printers, post-processing equipment, software and more than 45 materials for applications across engineering, manufacturing, healthcare and consumer products. The company reports annual revenue exceeding $250 million and says its customers have printed more than 500 million parts worldwide.
