Flender India, part of the Germany-based Flender Group with over a century of legacy, plans to expand its investments in India to drive further growth, according to a company official. In the past four years, Flender’s investment in the Indian market has nearly quadrupled, reflecting the country’s importance in the company’s global strategy, a recent release stated. Flender India operates three production facilities—in Kharagpur (near Kolkata), Chennai, and Walajabad in Tamil Nadu—to meet both domestic and international demand for wind turbine gearboxes.
To mark Flender Group’s 125th anniversary, CEO Andreas Evertz and Flender India CEO Vinod Shetty, along with senior company officials, visited the Tamil Nadu facilities and interacted with employees, as shared in a company announcement on Sunday.
Currently, about 10 percent of Flender Group’s global workforce of 9,000 is based in India. Founded in 1899 in Bocholt, Germany, initially producing wooden pulleys, Flender established its first manufacturing plant in India in 1961.
Flender India has seen its business more than double over the last three years and plans additional investments to maintain rapid growth. Over half of the products manufactured in India are now exported worldwide, the company noted.
During the anniversary event in Chennai, Evertz remarked, “We are and will remain a close-knit Flender family. From employees to customers, suppliers, and partners, we all share a strong connection. I am immensely proud to be part of this team and to work alongside you toward the energy transition.”
Reflecting on the milestone, Shetty added, “Celebrating 125 years with our valued customers, suppliers, partners, and community stakeholders was a proud moment. Our employees are the core drivers of our success and growth.”
Flender India, a subsidiary of the German industrial giant Flender Group, plays a key role in the global production and supply of mechanical and electrical drive systems, especially for the wind energy sector. Established in India in 1961, Flender has steadily expanded its presence, now operating three advanced manufacturing facilities in Kharagpur, Chennai, and Walajabad in Tamil Nadu.
These facilities produce high-performance gearboxes and transmission systems not only for the Indian market but also for international export, with over half of their output reaching global customers. Backed by Flender Group’s long-standing engineering expertise since its founding in 1899, Flender India has quadrupled its investment in recent years, underscoring its commitment to innovation and sustainable growth in India. With around 10% of Flender’s global workforce based in India, the company emphasizes skilled local talent and has become a crucial contributor to India’s green energy transition.
