Federal Ammunition has entered into a landmark agreement with the United States Army that will enable the military to utilize the company’s proprietary Peak Alloy cartridge case technology across a range of ammunition calibers and weapon platforms. The agreement represents a significant milestone in the evolution of small-caliber ammunition and underscores the growing importance of advanced materials in modern defense systems.
Under the terms of the agreement, Federal Ammunition will provide Peak Alloy cartridge cases to support military requirements, with Government Purpose Rights becoming available upon fulfillment of specified delivery milestones, including the production and supply of 40 million cases incorporating the technology.
Peak Alloy was introduced commercially in 2025 and quickly attracted attention for its ability to deliver higher performance than conventional brass ammunition cases. Manufactured from a specially engineered high-strength steel alloy, the casing is capable of withstanding chamber pressures exceeding 80,000 PSI. This enables increased projectile velocity and enhanced ballistic performance while supporting the growing use of lighter, shorter-barreled firearm platforms frequently paired with suppressor systems.
The technology offers significant advantages for military applications, where reliability, durability, and improved terminal performance remain critical operational requirements. By accommodating substantially higher pressures without compromising safety or consistency, Peak Alloy technology provides greater flexibility for future ammunition development programs.
The agreement covers multiple ammunition chamberings, including calibers up to and including .50 caliber systems. In addition to attracting interest within the United States defense sector, the technology is currently being evaluated by several allied nations seeking advanced ammunition solutions for next-generation military platforms.
Jason Vanderbrink, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Federal Ammunition, described the agreement as a defining moment in the company’s history. “This collaboration reflects our long-standing commitment to innovation and our dedication to supporting those who serve. The opportunity to contribute advanced ammunition technology that enhances the capabilities of military personnel is a responsibility we take seriously. Our engineering and manufacturing teams have worked tirelessly to develop a solution that delivers measurable performance advantages while meeting the demanding requirements of modern defense operations,” he said.
Founded more than a century ago, Federal Ammunition has established itself as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of ammunition products for military, law enforcement, hunting, and sporting applications. The company continues to invest in advanced materials, manufacturing technologies, and product development initiatives aimed at shaping the future of ammunition performance while supporting national defense objectives.
