Exel Composites, along with its joint venture Kineco-Exel India (KECI), has successfully won the bid to supply pultruded carbon planks for wind turbine spar caps to Vestas Wind Systems A/S. The carbon planks will be produced at KECI’s new factory in Goa, specifically designed to cater to the wind power industry in both India and international markets.

The production facility is currently undergoing a qualification process to meet Vestas’ standards, after which KECI will become an approved global supplier of carbon flats for Vestas. The first deliveries are expected by the end of 2025.

This agreement extends an existing long-term collaboration, first initiated more than a decade ago and updated in 2023. Vestas, headquartered in Aarhus, Denmark, is a major player in the wind energy sector, involved in the design, manufacturing, installation, and servicing of wind projects worldwide.

Carbon planks, which are critical to the spar caps in wind turbine blades, provide the strength and stiffness necessary for withstanding the operational stresses of large turbines. As turbines increase in size, carbon fiber composites are becoming increasingly essential for meeting the demanding mechanical standards.

“We are excited to deepen our relationship with Vestas and look forward to supporting their strategic initiatives in both India and globally,” said Kathy Wang, EVP Industrial Solutions at Exel Composites. Steven Zhu, Blade Procurement at Vestas APAC, China, added, “Working with Exel has been a pleasure, and we are eager to rapidly grow the carbon plank business in India.”

Established in 2021, KECI offers a wide range of composite solutions, including both glass fiber and carbon fiber components, for on-shore and off-shore wind turbines. Exel Composites is a global leader in composite profiles and tubes, using advanced pultrusion and pullwinding technologies.

Serving industries such as wind energy, transportation, and infrastructure, Exel’s innovative solutions reduce weight, enhance performance, and improve energy efficiency. Headquartered in Finland, the company employs over 600 professionals worldwide and is listed on Nasdaq Helsinki. Founded in 1994, Kineco Group is India’s leading composites manufacturer, serving markets such as aerospace, mass transit, and industrial applications.
